The Government has earmarked sh1.5b to revamp the holy shrine of St Adolf Lodigo in Kyenjonjo district.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities, Col. (Rtd) Tom Butime, during the holy pilgrimage celebrations on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Katoosa Shrine-Kyenjojo in Fort Portal Diocese.

The minister said the government will erect a perimeter wall to fence off the site, extend water services to the place, and install an amp theatre to meet the required international standard of tourism sites.

The celebration mass was led by the Archbishop of Mbarara, Rev Fr Bishop Lambert Bainomugisha, who called for faith in the martyrs as they have the spiritual power to intercede for the faith.

The lands minister Judith Nabakooba, who represented Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, implored teachers and schools to ensure that children join and stay in school through the Uinversal Primary Education Scheme.

In her speech read by Nabakooba, Nabbanja congratulated the faithful upon reaching this day and encouraged them to keep faith in the Uganda martyrs.

About St Adolf Tibeyalirwa

This martyr is born in Katoosa Parish in the Kyenjojo district of Fort Portal Diocese. He was killed on June 3, 1886, at Namugongo by the Kabaka of Buganda, Mwanga, for his faith. This made Katoosa to gain momentum and it attracted the whole parish of Butiiti way back in 1984.

The development of the area was started by the late Fr. Fortunate Kasangaki as its first parish priest and Msgr Kaijanabyo as curate.
