Embattled Karamoja affairs minister Mary Goretti Kitutu has skipped summons to appear before Inspector General of Government (IGG) Beti Kamya and instead sent her lawyer, Jude Byamukama.

The summon was specifically for her to appear to avail the IGG with information about the ongoing inquiry into the supplementary funds released to the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) to support peace-building activities in the Karamoja region in the 2021/2022 financial year.

Byamukama, dressed in a navy blue suit, arrived at the IGG's office, along Parliamentary Avenue at about 10:40 am. Byamukama was accompanied by lawyer Counsel Rogers Katunguka.

The December 6, 2023, summons was received by Kitutu last week (January 4) and comes on the backdrop of another directive to the Police to search Kitutu's residence in Bbunga, Kampala.

In April last year, Kitutu was arrested, arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court, and charged with loss of public property in connection in connection to diversion of iron sheets that were meant to be distributed to the vulnerable in the Karamoja sub-region.

She was charged alongside her brother, Michael Naboya Kitutu, and personal assistant Joshua Abaho. Naboya is accused of receiving stolen property while Abaho is battling charges of corruption.
