Authorities have gazetted 16 points prioritised for slaughtering animals during the festive season across the Jinja district commencing on Christmas Day.

The move, according to an official document signed by Dr Ezekiel Waiswa on behalf of principal veterinary officer Dr Florence Nahamya, is aimed at 'easy prevention against anthrax, and the foot and mouth disease (FMD)'.

The December 22, 2023 document stipulates how animals would be slaughtered in the seven lower local governments in the district.

“Sixteen slaughter places were selected for slaughter of livestock during the festive season year 2023 by the veterinary department for the easy prevention of the spread of disease including anthrax and FMD,” it reads.

For instance, in the Kakira town council, authorities identified Line Kubwa, Polota, and Kakira town slaughterhouses while in Butagaya sub-county, slaughtering would be conducted at Lumuli and Bubugo.

Elsewhere, in Buyengo and Buwenge sub-counties, similar activities would take place at Budumbulu, Iziru, and Kamigo, including Kayaka, Muguluka and Mutai, respectively.

In Namagera town council, the gazatted points are Namagera and Lubani, while Namaganga and Nabitambala were prioritised for the Busedde sub-county.

According to Waiswa, the district also deployed experts mandated to conduct tests on each slaughtered animal before letting them for public consumption.
