The chancellor of Kyambogo University, Prof John Yakobo Okedi, has urged parents and guardians to stop pressurising their freshly graduated children coming from universities.

“Please tame your expectations. These graduates have to settle down first before they face the world, so please do not pressurize them,” he said.

He was speaking during the university’s 19th graduation ceremony at Kyambogo in Kampala on Wednesday.

At the event, Okedi urged graduates to uphold university values, reminding them that they are the ambassadors of the university where they go.

He said while the job market may be tough, with hard work and commitment, they can overcome the challenges ahead.

“Face the circumstance with courage and strength. These are values we have been imparting to you during your study here at the university."



At least 10,926 students are graduating in different disciplines at university. Of these, 6,118 are females and males make up 4,808. 

The graduation ceremony kicked off on Wednesday with the Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation, and the School of Management and Entrepreneurship.

Thursday (December 7) will have the Faculty of Agriculture, School of Vocational Studies, School of Arts and Design, Faculty of Social Sciences, and Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

Friday will have the School of Environment, School of Computing and Information Science, School of Education, and the faculties of Engineering and Science.

According to statistics released by the university on Monday, a total of eight Ph.D. students, six of whom are from the School of Education and two from Science, would graduate at the event.

A total of 161 students are graduating with a master's degree, with the Faculty of Arts and Design accounting for 78 of them.
