Archbishop of Kampala Paul Ssemogerere has warned married men and women against leaving their homes for a long time as they look for money.
The prelate says many men and women leave their homes for ages saying that they are looking for money. According to him, this causes anxiety, sabotaging, threats to destroy property, emotional abuse, and domestic violence in the homes.
"Some men and women go on transfers and others do distant work for weeks and months without coming back home," he said.
Ssemogerere made the call while preaching during a mass wedding at Holy Family Catholic Parish at Namayumba in Wakiso district on Saturday.
The bishop also urged couples to desist from evil and rumors as they are obstacles to the longevity of marriages because they lead to divorce.
The day was graced by Wakiso district chairperson Matia Lwanga Bwanika, Wakiso Woman MP Hon. Betty Naluyimba, Busiro MP Paul Nsubuga, and former Makindye MP Kigozi Ssajjalyabenne, among others.
Couples tie knot after over 40 years
Out of the six newlywed couples, two had cohabited for over 40 years.
Michael Kasirimu, 61, and Juliana Ndihire, 57, from Buddali village, Buwaasa Catholic sub-parish had cohabited for 40 years. Livingstone Katarairi and Jane Namayanja from Buteebo village cohabited for 47 years.
