The Police have named the six people who died on the spot after a vehicle that was part of Kyabazinga’s convoy rammed into bystanders who had lined along the road to witness as his entourage headed to Christ Cathedral Bugembe for the royal wedding.

Kyabazinga William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV on Saturday wedded Inhebantu Jovia Mutesi in a colourful ceremony.

Busoga North Police spokesperson Michael Kasadha said the vehicle, a super custom registration number UAZ 742U, was part of the Kyabazinga’s convoy, coming from Kamuli, heading to Bugembe in Jinja City.

The vehicle reportedly lost control at Nawantumbi Trading Centre, on Kamuli-Jinja Road, at around 1:40 pm.

Kasadha revealed that six people died on the spot, while eight sustained severe injuries and were rushed to different health centres for treatment.

However, the Police said another victim had died, hence bringing the death toll to seven.

The deceased have been identified as Godfrey Isabirye, 40, a resident of Nawantumbi, Kevin Abbo, 12, Lubale Waiswa, 30, a resident of Nalinaibi, Emmanuel Mutasa, 10, Katono Nabirye, 37, and Amisi Mutakubwa.

"The seventh one is a female and her particulars are yet to be established,” Police said.

Three of the victims were admitted to Kamuli General Hospital, three to Jinja Regional Hospital and two others in a private clinic.
