Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has said it is closing off a section of Port Bell Road and Mbuya junction in Kampala's Nakawa division for five days.

The entity said in a public notice on Saturday that this is intended to allow for intense construction work to take place at the section.

"The public is hereby informed essential excavation works on Port Bell Road are scheduled at Mbuya junction starting on Saturday (November 11) at 2pm to November 15 for a period of five days."

KCCA is implementing the Kampala City Roads Rehabilitation (KCRRP) project and specifically in this area, the reconstruction and dualling of 10.01km of Port Bell and Spring roads.

The works include the signalization of five junctions in Nakawa division (Lot 2).

The works are being carried out by Zhejiang Communications Construction Group Company Limited (ZCCC).

The aim of the project is to enhance the drainage capacity by installing a 900mm diameter pipe culvert.

As a result, KCCA said this section will be completely closed to traffic during this period.

"We will be working closely with traffic Police to control and direct traffic in this area."

KCCA added: "While we strive to minimize disruptions, motorists intending to access Mbuya Junction from other routes are advised to consider using alternative routes as per the diversion and guidance signages installed.

"We apologise for any inconveniences these works will cause and your co-operation during this period is greatly appreciated."
