The minister of local government, Rapheal Magyezi, has met the leaders of the Parish Development Model (PDM) SACCOs of Kawempe division in Kampala. He met them on November 3, 2023, at the National ICT Innovation in Nakawa.

Magyezi said that PDM beneficiaries in Kampala had never received any coin of their PDM money when it was released by the government, that is why he decided to meet these leaders to confirm whether their SACCOs and their respective beneficiaries have received it.

Magyezi has urged the PDM SACCO leaders of Kawempe to work hard to ensure that every beneficiary receives this money. However, he warned them against giving out this money to only their relatives.

“It is really unfair if a PDM SACCO chairperson gives this money to his wife, children, and uncle among his other relatives”, he added.

In their interaction with Magyezi, Kawempe PDM SACCO leaders informed him that they lack an integrated system between the banks and the monitoring system of the PDM SACCO chairpersons, that can alert them when a SACCO member has received his or her Money. As of now, even when a member withdraws his PDM money from his bank account, the monitoring system maintains a wrong indicator that he has not yet received it.

Lack of offices, computers, pens, reams of papers, among others are other challenges that the PDM leaders tabled before Magyezi. Following these concerns, Magyezi promised them that the government is going to provide a computer to every PDM SACCO as well as giving out some allowances to the respective PDM SACCO committees.

According to the PDM coordinator in Kampala, Asia Nabisere Kinaabi, Kampala has a total of 98 PDM SACCOs, of which 22 of them are from Kawempe division and they have all received their money. Kinaabi says a total of sh9.7b has been given out to the PDM SACCOs in Kampala.
