Bushenyi man held for fatally assaulting his grandmother

Tumusiime identified the suspect as Richard Byaruhanga, 23, a casual worker, and the victim as Anyesi Tiberebwa, all residents of the same area. 

According to Tumusiime, since July this year, Greater Bushenyi Police has registered 12 murder cases.

The Police in Bushenyi District are holding a 23-year-old man accused of attacking and killing his 96-year-old grandmother. 

Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi region Police spokesperson confirmed the incident that happened on Saturday, October 14, at around 7:30 pm in Kayojo Cell, Ruharo Ward, Central Division, Ishaka Municipality.  

He identified the suspect as Richard Byaruhanga, 23, a casual worker, and the victim as Anyesi Tiberebwa, all residents of the same area. 

According to Innocent Tumwebaze, the LC1 chairperson of Kayojo Village who reported the case to the Police, the suspect had come to the family of the deceased at around 7:00 am to be prayed for, claiming he was suffering from a headache. 

"At around 4:00 pm, he came back and forcefully broke the door, entered, and attacked the deceased from her bed saying she should pray for him. He pushed her, she hit her head on the floor and died instantly," said Tumwebaze.  

After the crime, the suspect managed to run away and went into hiding but was later arrested by locals who took him to Bushenyi Central Police Station where he is now detained. 

According to Tumusiime, since July this year, Greater Bushenyi Police has registered 12 murder cases. 

The body of the deceased has been conveyed to KIU Hospital Ishaka for a postmortem.
