The National Unity Platform (NUP) president, Robert Kyagulanyi, is safe at his home in Magere, Wakiso district, according to Police.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, clarified that Kyagulanyi, had safely returned from his overseas trip.

“Security agencies accompanied him to his residence in Magere, Kasangati. We extend our appreciation to the security agencies for the efforts in maintaining the safety and security of our nation,” Onyango’s statement reads.

While addressing the media at the Central Police Station (CPS) on Wednesday, Onyango said they had received intelligence reports that some political elements were mobilising people to go to Entebbe International Airport without police permission.

Onyango said the organizers of the events have planned a procession from Entebbe International Airport through Kitoro, Katabi, Kitala, Kitende, Kajjansi, Lubowa through the Central Business District, Kalerwe up to Magere in Kasangati, Wakiso District.

“This kind of procession has the potential of disrupting the flow of traffic, movement of persons and business along Entebbe-Gayaza highway and can attract acts of criminality whereby bystanders on the roadside, business, motorists, and passengers can be affected or be victimized through acts of theft.

Given the above background, security agencies called upon the organizers to halt the planned procession because it is non-regulated and could disrupt business. In future, if the organizers have such plans, they should always harmonise their activities with police,” Onyango said.

He also urged the public to shun calls for joining this assembly.

“The organisers of this event are advised to stop the mobilization. Security agencies will make sure that no one engages in illegal procession and whoever will be arrested will be taken to the court of law. Security agencies working with members of the public will be alert to halt any illegality,” he asserted.

Police warning comes in the wake of Wednesday's arrest of seven NUP supporters in Abayita Ababiri, Katabi Town Council.

The seven were detained in Entebbe Central Police Station after they were intercepted mobilizing people to participate in the 1 million-strong march to welcome back from his diaspora mobilization tour.

Kyagulanyi flew to the US last month shortly after his nationwide mobilisation activities and opening of new offices were suspended over alleged sectarian sentiments, he made in Luweero District.
