Police in the Albertine region are investigating circumstances under which an 18-year-old man died at Kinyara sugar factory in Masindi Municipality.

The deceased has been identified as Christopher of Kabarye cell Kibwona ward Karujubu division Masindi Municipality.

Speaking during a phone interview on Friday afternoon the Albertine region spokesperson Julius Hakiiza said that the deceased has been working as a cleaner in the conveyor section.

He noted the incident occurred on Friday at around 8am as the deceased was cleaning and collecting sugar residue from the conveyor.

Hakiiza quoting witness, said " the deceased accidently rose up under the conveyor and the conveyor grabbed him and hit his head on the moving roller. He died after sustaining several deep cuts. Police was called in, but it was too late ".

He noted that a case for industrial accidents has been registered and Police have launched an investigation to ascertain what could have happened.

Eldon Walukamba, the corporate communication manager said that the deceased died at Masindi Hospital momenta after arrival. He noted  the helmet which he  was putting on was crashed by the conveyor. He   said the company  puts a lot of  effort in ensuring health and safety of their workers.
