Security agencies are ready to ensure peaceful celebrations of President Yoweri Museveni's 79th birthday.

The event which is open to the public is to take place at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala on Friday, September 8, 2023.

Kampala Metropolitan (KMP) spokesperson Patrick Onyango says because of the recent terror threats around Kampala, all security agencies are working jointly to ensure everything goes smoothly.

"Security agencies have made all arrangements to ensure Ugandans celebrate without disruptions. We urge the public to come and celebrate with their President," he says.

However, Onyango has reechoed the need for the public to remain vigilant and alert any suspicious item to security.

Traffic guidelines

Addressing journalists at his office on Thursday, KMP traffic commander Godwin Arinaitwe said some sections of the roads in the Upper Kololo, Elgon Terrace and Lower Kololo are to be cut from other motorists apart from the Very Very Important Persons (VVIPs).

Other officials and the rest of the public with vehicles planning to attend the event are to park at the former Shoprite Lugogo parking, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) grounds and the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) grounds.

Arinaitwe noted that those from Bombo roadside should use Old Kira road, through Lugogo bypass to access parking at Shoprite or KCCA grounds as will be guided by security personnel.

He said the traffic flow will remain uninterrupted through the golf course towards Acacia Avenue.

Those from Nansana are to use Yusuf Lule Road, Golf Course Lights, to Wampewo roundabout and park at Shoprite, KCCA and UMA grounds.

Motorists from Entebbe are advised to use Kampala Road directly to Shoprite, while those from Prince Charles Drive are to use Archer Road junction up to Jinja Road police and connect to Shoprite for parking.

All those from Jinja are advised to park at UMA grounds.

The birthday is organised by the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
