Speaker Among holds thanksgiving at Aereere

The festivities, which are expected to include a prayer service, a peoples’ procession, speeches from guests and Among herself, have seen several ministers and Members of Parliament arrive.

Several high-profile dignitaries have already arrived in Bukedea district's Kamutur sub-county where Parliament Speaker Anita Among is holding a thanksgiving ceremony.

The festivities, which are expected to include a prayer service, a peoples’ procession, speeches from guests and Among herself, have seen several ministers and Members of Parliament arrive.

The celebrations are inside Among’s new country home, which is seated on an estimated 10 acres.

In the buildup to this function, Among has been canvassing her neighbourhood, gifting each household 20 pieces of iron sheets among other building materials.

“I felt good seeing the improving quality of the people who voted me to represent them in Parliament,” Among was overheard telling a section of her pre-event guests.

“People are able to benefit from the Government programmes and it has motivated me to support them further with the building material so that they can put up better houses for their families,” she added.

The head of communications at the Speaker’s office, Joseph Sabit, had earlier confirmed that more than 300 MPs had confirmed their intentions to come and celebrate with the people of Bukedea.
