Police identify Ngora crash victims

Four businesspeople perished on the spot when a Fuso truck registration number UAV 251Y overturned at about 02:00am.

Police have released the identities of the four businesspeople who perished in a Monday morning road crash at Kabakuli on the Ngora-Kumi road in Ngora district.

Four businesspeople perished on the spot when a Fuso truck registration number UAV 251Y overturned at about 02:00am.

Kyoga East Police region spokesperson Oscar Ageca identified the dead as Emmanuel Okello of Pallisa district, Teresa Akwi of Kasilo, Florence Auja of Omagara and Janet Igechu of Akocho all in Serere district.

According to Ageca, the vehicle was moving from Serere to Busia via Kumi loaded with bags of lemon and businesspeople.

He said the driver, whose identity is not yet established, lost control causing the vehicle to overturn killing four people on the spot.

Ageca added that the driver is on the run and Police have launched a manhunt for him.

The injured, who were rushed to Ngora Freda Carr Hospital, were also identified as Silas Epidu, 20; Francis Akora, 39; John Bosco Okello, 23; Stephen Okiror, 31; Jorem Edeu, 22; Martin Ochol, 37; Anna Margaret Asimo, 50; Martin Ebwor, 30; Sarah Atim, 39; Safina Nabawanuka, 46 and Agnes Amito.

Postmortem was performed on the deceased and handed over to their relatives, while the wreckage was towed to the police station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.
