Uganda Manufacturer’s Association (UMA) has partnered with the Rotary Club of Kampala Maisha to raise over sh50m for the walkway to the women’s labour ward at Kojja Health Center 4 Ntenjeru, Mukono District.

Speaking at the fundraising ceremony held on Saturday at the UMA Show Ground, Lugogo Dr. Ezra Muhumuza Rubanda, the UMA Executive Director said that the partnership will go a long way to support different initiatives.

According to Milton Owor, the president of the Rotary Club of Kampala Maisha, the fundraising committee intends to raise close to sh50m to construct a walkway covered with shade.

“We intend to raise money to help us with upgrading the culture Health Center with a challenge for young mothers when they are going to give birth, the distance between the maternity ward and the labour ward is quite a distance close to 30 meters. So pregnant women are wheeled under the sun or rain without any cover,” he said

Milton said that the health center covers the population of close to 400 women in the catchment area.

“We want to equip the labor ward as we work with the hospital administrators to see how the club and friends can support them in that regard,” he added.

In Uganda, there are over 400 Rotary clubs contributing their time, energy and passion to carry out impactful and sustainable projects in the areas of peace and conflict resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and community development.
