The Ugandan contingent of three established sprinters has arrived in Djibouti to participate in the Friday Djibouti Athletics Championships.

Sprinters include the national reigning champion 2K mixed-sex race, Tom Dradiga, Abu Mayanja, and Fadil Wabutwa.

Dradiga who turns out for UWA Athletics Club will race in his favorite field of 800m.

Mayanja and Wabutwa are both set to compete in 1500m.

Speaking exclusively to New Vision Sports, their Edwin Kinalya says the sprinters will use the championships to gain competitive confidence.

“The main objective is to help them to run to top fitness levels and good times to improve their world ranking.

“I believe the sprinters will do very well in Djibouti though it is also true that it will be a tough test for them,” Kinalya said.

In particular, Dradiga is currently on a red-hot form having won the Cross country 2K championship 2022 against South Sudan’s Abraham Majoki in Tororo, last month.

Dradiga also impressed in the first trials in which he cruised through the finish line in the first position helping him to a successful Africa Seniors Games champions’ qualification.

Meanwhile, Mayanja and Wabutwa have both been stunningly solid in the recent training sessions at Mandela National Stadium.
