The 2021 former presidential candidate, Gen. Mugisha Muntu has called upon the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party former candidates to embark on income-generating activities as part of their personal preparations ahead of the 2026 elections.

He says the party is planning to equip its supporters with entrepreneurship skills to empower them financially to cause a transition in the country.

Muntu made the remark in a media engagement in Lira on Monday, shortly after opening a post-elections review workshop that brought all the ANT members who contested for various positions in Lango region and failed in the just-ended elections.

The meeting held at Pacific Grand Hotel was aimed at reviewing the outcome of the just-ended elections; evaluate the level of party preparedness and candidate’s preparedness, among other critical issues.

Earlier in his address to the party members, Muntu consoled former candidates saying politics is not the end of life, therefore, life should continue as they prepare for 2026.

Muntu attributed the poor performance by the party in the general elections to covid-19, which he said interfered with their preparations as a party.

He said ANT will start training its members in leadership capabilities and also entrepreneurial capabilities and give them financial backing to support them in different enterprises in order to change the culture of politics in Uganda.

This, he noted, is in line with the party’s target to enable members to generate resources out of the politics so that when they go to contest, they don’t go there for the money but to deliver services to the population.

“The only way you can have a qualitative change is when you can go out to meet honest men and women who would want that change and build them organizationally so that they become the dominant force. I call upon, all people who want to fight corruption to join political parties,” Muntu said.
