The Police in Kabale were Monday holding four suspects who allegedly conspired and murdered an electrician and sold his blood to a yet unknown person at Lake Bunyonyi.

Other sources however alleged that the move to sell the deceased’s blood could have been a case of ritual murder or intended to ‘kill the case’.

The Kigezi Region police spokesman, Elly Maate, Monday, May 15, confirmed the arrest of the four suspects, who he identified as Ben Kakuru, Sam Nuwahereza, Medard Atwebembeire an employee of Standard Hotel, Turinawe Amos, and Ponsiano Besigye.

Maate said Besigye is the owner of a bar where the murder allegedly took place and that they were still being held at Kabale Central Police Station.

He said they are helping the police in further investigations following the brutal murder of one Conrad Ninsiima, an electrician who was murdered last week by unknown people and his body dumped at Nyamabale cell.

According to Maate, information emerged at Ninsiima’s vigil when one of the suspects, Turinawe, allegedly revealed the identities of some of the people who were involved in committing the said murder.

He allegedly shocked the mourners when he casually told them that he had been sent to attend the vigil to observe what was taking place and give them feedback. Turinawe particularly mentioned Nuwahereza as the main culprit in the murder.

Maate said the shocked mourners immediately apprehended Turinawe and immediately took him to Kabale Central Police Station where they handed him over to the Police for safe custody and questioning.

But during interrogation, Maate said, the suspect revealed that he, together with Kakuru, Sam Nuwandinda of Bombokya Bar who was still at large, Atwebembeire and one Owen, a security guard, planned and executed the  murder.

Turinawe informed the Police that the suspects allegedly used an electric knife which was allegedly obtained from Bombokya bar.

“Efforts are being made to find the askari (security guard) and the boda boda rider who was hired to carry the deceased to the bar before the murder and later transported his blood to Lake Bunyonyi where it was allegedly sold,” Maate said in a statement.

He said efforts were also still underway to apprehend the driver who was hired to drive the body to where it was found the following day and any other accomplice.

The case is recorded as murder vide Kabale CRB 377/2023.
