Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya and his Makindye West counterpart, Allan Ssewanyana, will return to Parliament after recovering from their poor state of health, Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga has said.

He made the revelations on Thursday during plenary chaired by Speaker Anita Among.

Mpuuga said the two legislators were recuperating and receiving moral support in an undisclosed location.

Among then said Parliament was ready to support the ailing MPs if they provided their medical documents.

On February 13, 2023, Masaka High Court judge Lawrence Tweyanze released the ailing MPs on bail after spending about 17 months on remand at Kigo Prison in Wakiso district over allegations of being behind the spate of killings in greater Masaka area.

The killings saw about 26 residents murdered between March and June 2021 by machete-wielding assailants.

While applying for bail on October 25, 2021, the two National Unity Platform (NUP) party MPs said they were suffering from grievous illnesses some resulting from torture by the security personnel, which could not be effectively managed while under incarceration.

Justice Tweyanze granted them bail on condition that each pays sh20m cash, sh50m not cash for each of the sureties, report to the International Crimes Division of the High Court once every month and not interfere with the investigations.
