A 23-year-old man in Buyende district is nursing a wound after his wife allegedly hacked him on the head for failing to raise money to plait her hair for the festive season.

Hazraj Latif Byakika, a resident of Kakooge in Buyende sub-county, faced Fauza Namuli’s wrath on Friday afternoon when she allegedly cut him on the head with a panga.

He yelled for help before the neighbours found him panting with a stream of blood oozing from the head. They rushed him to Kakooge Health Center II for first aid.

Noticing the magnitude of the injury, the medics referred him to Kamuli General Hospital for further management, while the locals combed the bushes for the assailant, who had vanished into thin air.

Terming his wife an “assassin,” Byakika told New Vision that her incessant demand for money to plait her hair started a fortnight ago.

He promised that he would be in position to give her money for hair a few days before Christmas, which didn’t happen – he blamed it on financial constraints.

“I had promised to pay the hair bills, but as Christmas Day drew nearer, I failed to get the money in time. She quarrelled through the night till dawn, before cutting me at noon,” he said.

According to Busoga North Region Police Spokesperson Michael Kasadha, two charges of attempted murder and causing bodily harm were opened by Byakika, as the hunt for the assailant continues.

Kasadha cautioned couples against domestic violence before and after the festive days, adding that local leaders should also be vigilant and prevail over incidents which compromise harmony and peace in households.
