One person died on the spot while six others were injured in a Thursday morning accident that happened on the Kampala-Masaka Highway in Mpigi district. 

A statement by Police indicated that the accident happened at Kavule swamp. It involved a Fuso truck which was coming from Masaka and a Toyota Noah which was heading in the opposite direction. 

“The motor vehicle overturned and fell on the lane of Kampala to Masaka, found a Toyota Noah reg no. UAZ 401K (blue in colour) which was brushed on the sides of the driver side in the process of sliding,” the Police statement said. 

“So far one female adult has been confirmed dead and around six victims rushed to Double Cure hospital for first aid treatment,” the Police statement added. 

The latest police reports indicate that 20,000 road accidents occur nationwide every year. These cause more than 2,000 deaths which place Uganda among the countries with the highest traffic fatality rates.
