Fresh probe

It emerged on Wednesday that while serving her sentence, the victim (Anyango) who was taken to hospital succumbed to the injuries and died hence bringing up a new case of Murder as a result of burning with hot water, according to Mugwe.

Police first launched investigations on June 12 after a one Moses Amou reported the incident when. Anyango was burnt. She was a resident of Bwakama Village, Ngabita Parish, Busia district.

Preliminary investigations indicate that; on January 15, a one Stephen Egesa (a single father then), married Nafula, and they lived together as they nursed the deceased who was crippled.

“On June 10, Nafula, allegedly boiled water and inserted Anyango in it. The victim burnt her buttocks and the legs causing serious injuries,” Mugwe said.

According to Mugwe, residents who learnt of the gruesome act, pounced on Nafula and beat her prompting Police to swing in action rescuing her from the angry mob.

Subsequently, she was arrested by the Police and grievous harm charge preferred against her.

On June 22, she was arraigned before court and sentenced to a five-year imprisonment, according to Mugwe.

“Today (Thursday) police received information that the victim had died hence slapping the victim with another charge – murder,” Mugwe said.  Scene of crime officers were dispatched to examine the victim’s body again.
