Sprinter Nyamahunge in fundraising plea for European events

National sprinter and 100m record holder Jacent Nyamahunge has been invited to compete in the Germany Kuga Weltklassenn athletics event in Weinheim starting May 28.

But Nyamahunge, who recently set a new national 100m record (11.57) in Nairobi during the Kenya National Championships is looking for funds amounting to about sh10m to be able to travel and compete in the Germany event and another in Austria.

Nyamahunge said the European events are in preparation for the Africa Senior Championship, the World Championships and the Commonwealth Games.

“I’ve already made the Africa and Commonwealth teams but I’m looking to qualify for the worlds,” Nyamahunge, who is short by sh8m said.

The Uganda team will fly to Mauritius for the African Championships on June 5 but she wants to first try to qualify the world championship before she tackles the African event.

The money she needs will cover a flight to Germany $800 (sh2.9), visa $100 (sh365, 000/-), covid test$100, Airport transfer $100 accommodation $560 (sh2m), food$300, training facilities$280, flight to Austria$350 (sh1.2m), sports massage $120, incidentals $100 totaling to $2810 (sh10m).

Nyamahunge has previously featured in international competitions in countries like the USA, Italy, South Africa Kenya, Morocco among others.

“We as the people of Bunyoro need to help our promising athlete from Kaigo Munteeme in kikuube district. We are confident that our girl will make us proud,” Albert Kunihira, Pearl of Africa Vacations CEO/Business Development Manager pleaded via a social media post.
