Wananchi Sports Club ladies team is the team to beat even after losing some of their players to rivals last season.

They defeated DCU 3-1 to win the Easter Cup.

“My team has done what it knows best and that’s winning at whatever cost it takes, and I must proudly say they are worthy champions,” said coach Christopher Otim

Deliverance Church of Uganda (DCU) came out strong in the first half of the game and scored an early goal through Brenda Achayo after a defensive mix-up between Consulate Muber who slapped the ball and barely moved.

Achayo utilized the one chance to strike.

However, in the second half, Wananchi came back strong and scored three goals through Doreen Mbabazi (2) and Norah Alum who put up a remarkable performance.

DCU striker Lucky Akello said her team is building for the future.

“We are building a new team that is set to dominate women's hockey in the coming years. Losing today hurts but we shall work hard to win something this season,” noted Akello.

Three Kenyan teams and others from Uganda totaling 17 participated in the Easter Cup.

The last edition of the tournament was in 2019 and had only Ugandan teams.
