Weatherhead Hockey Club has started plans to have a home.

The club that has been in existence for 25 years has produced many hockey players despite not having a permanent home.

“The club is in final negotiations to purchase a four-acre piece of land to set up a home that will also house the club offices," stated club chairman Stephen Jjuuko

Jjuuko was speaking at an event where Weatherhead unveiled innovation consortium as their kit sponsor at the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) offices in Lugogo.

The sponsorship deal worth sh8m for one year will cater for both the home and away kits.

This comes at a time when the club is in preparations to take part in the African Club Championships later this year.

The reigning league and Uganda Cup champions are also preparing a mega dinner this year to host the club members and celebrate their achievements over the last 25 years of existence

The club wanted to have the silver jubilee celebrations held at Kings’ College Buddo where the club was founded, but covid-19 interrupted the plans

“We planned to have the silver jubilee celebrations at the place of origin of the club but we had to opt for another venue due to covid-19," Jjuuko said.

"As part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations, we are going to organise a Master Hockey Open. We expect players from as far as Italy and the Netherlands to come to be part of it."

Brian Atuhire, the marketing manager of Innovation Consortium believes their coming on board will help both parties to benefit.
