PARLIAMENT | SPEAKER AMONG | AIDS DAY

KAMPALA - The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Anitah Among, has pledged Parliament' commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDs in Uganda.

"Parliament is committed to ensuring that we increase efforts in creating awareness and fighting stigma in our communities," Among said in a Twitter post on Wednesday.

Among said one of the ways Parliament can spearhead the fight against the scourge, is through improved budgeting for sectors such the health and technology that support HIV responses.

She said, "We must not lose our gains in the fight against HIV/AIDS as a country and soldier on with the fight to end inequalities, end pandemics and above all to achieve the global goal of ending AIDS by 2030."

Among commended the Government especially President Yoweri Museveni and health workers that have been pivotal in the fight against HIV/AIDs.

"We salute our front line workers who always go beyond their call of duty to ensure that there is service despite the challenges," she said.

Today, Uganda joined the rest of the world to mark International AIDS day.
