The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has urged Ugandans not lose gains in the fight against HIV/AIDS and soldier on with the fight to end inequalities, end pandemics, and above all, achieve the global goal of ending AIDS by 2030

In her World AIDS Day message released on Wednesday, Among noted that on this day, we remember our loved ones, those we have lost in the battle, and send our encouragement to those who continue to care for the sick.

“We also remember those who set the pace for the fight against HIV, those who have openly fought against stigma and through positive living impacted the lives of the people in their communities.  We recognize the special efforts of the Government, led by His Excellency, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the fight against HIV,” she said.

“We salute our front line workers who always go beyond their call of duty to ensure that there is service despite the challenges. The Covid-19 pandemic has brought about its complications, affected access to ARVS, increased the pressure on our health systems and in one way or another challenged us to do better to attend to the health needs of our people,” she added.

She noted that Parliament is committed to ensuring that efforts in creating awareness and fighting stigma in communities is increased.

“We have to look into improving budgeting to the sector and deliberately invest in technology that supports responses,” Among added.
