The government has been asked to explain the reported deployment of Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Raising the issue as a matter of national importance during Tuesday's plenary, Mityana Municipality MP also Commissioner of Parliament, Francis Zaake, said the government ought to have gotten permission from Parliament before the deployment.

However, in response, government chief whip Thomas Tayebwa clarified that the government is still engaging DR Cong about the same.

"We are engaging Congolese authorities about a possible deployment in the Congo," Tayebwa said.

It emerged recently, that the Ugandan government had been okayed by DR Congo to deploy its forces to fight the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).
