Uganda Boxing Federation patron Mike Mukula has hailed federation president Moses Muhangi for the innovations that will see boxers start earning money.

He made the remarks at the launch of the inaugural Boxing Champions League at Kati Kati Restaurant on Thursday.

Mukula said he will make sure importers of boxing equipment like Top Boy Promotions get a tax waiver from the government.

He also promised to resume soliciting for a Cuban coach for the national team and also called on corporate companies to invest in boxing to make Uganda number one in Africa.

Muhangi said all is set for the tournament to roll off on December 4, 2021, and will run through 2022.

He said 160 out of the 200 boxers who qualified for the tournament at the national trials turned up to sign the contracts of eligibility to participate.

Muhangi said the registration window for a group of defiant boxers who are uncomfortable with the terms in the contracts is still open only if the government can fund the national trials.

He also unveiled Top Boy Promotions as the entity in charge of the marketing and promotion of the tournament.
