Police arrests woman accused of cutting off husband's genitals

Police in Kabale on Thursday confirmed they had arrested 48-year-old Emily Kobusingye who was on the run suspected of cutting off her husband's genitals.

Elly Maate the Kigezi regional Police spokesperson said the suspect was arrested from her hideout in Kabale town.

"She is currently being interrogated at Rukungiri Central Police Station and will be arraigned before the courts of law on charges of attempted murder," Maate said.

Police said that on November 11, 2021, at around 1:00 am, businessman Benin Tugumisiriza, 45, a resident of Bikurungu town cell, central ward, Bikurungu town council in Rukungiri district got involved in a domestic quarrel with his wife Kobusingye over claims that the victim had married a second wife.

"As the victim was sleeping, the suspect decided to cut the private parts of the husband and took off to a yet unknown destination. According to the victim, he entered his vehicle and drove up to Nyakibale Hospital where he is currently getting treatment," Maate said.

Maate said the Police visited the scene of the crime and recovered the exhibit knife covered with blood in the couple’s bedroom.

"Statements from the children of the couple were recorded. According to information on the ground, there has been domestic violence between the couple for quite some time in relation to the victim marrying a second wife though not reported to any local authority," Maate added.
