KAMPALA - Uganda Airlines says traffic flow has compelled them to add an extra weekly flight to Dubai as it also continues to engage authorities in China over direct flights to Guangzhou.

Jenifer Musiime Bamuturaki, the Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Airlines, told New Vision on Sunday so many passengers were travelling from Entebbe to Dubai, hence the need for another flight.

Previously, the airline was having three weekly flights but the number will increase by one more.

“We want to serve the business community well. They will now be able to travel to Dubai on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays,” Musiime said.

The airline’s CEO said they were still engaging authorities in China to ensure that flights there start soon.

“With the help of the Ugandan Embassy in Beijing, we are still negotiating with the Chinese authorities to ensure we start flights there as soon as possible,” she said.

In August, Uganda Airlines announced that it had secured an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) to operate long-haul flights.

The national carrier said then its A330-800neo aircraft were prepared to make flights to Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Among the planned flights are those to London, Mumbai and Guangzhou.

The airline launched flights to the United Arab Emirates on October 9, the foreign affairs ministry announcing then that, “The Uganda Airlines flights have registered tremendous success in passenger and Cargo traffic. The flights will serve as a boost for Trade, Tourism and Investments.”
