KOMAMBOGA BLAST

DEVELOPING STORY

President Yoweri Museveni has vowed that "we shall get the perpetrators" of the Saturday night explosion in Komamboga in Kawempe Division that left one dead and others injured.

He said it is likely a "terrorist act", as investigations continue.

A Police forensics team arrived at the scene Sunday morning to investigate the incident.

"I have been briefed on the bomb incident in Kwata zone, Komamboga. The information I have is that 3 people came and left a package in kaveera, which later on exploded, killing 1 person and injuring 5 others. It seems to be a terrorist act but we shall get the perpetrators," tweeted President Museveni on Sunday.

"The Police specialists are on the ground investigating the whole incident. They will give us more information later. They will also give guidelines on vigilance by the public dealing with these possible terrorists.

"The public should not fear, we shall defeat this criminality like we have defeated all the other criminality committed by the pigs who don't respect life."

The incident, described by Police as a 'serious blast', happened at around 9pm in Uganda's capital Kampala.

The nationwide dawn-to-dusk curfew takes effect starting 7pm in Uganda, but reports indicate that there were people at Digida Pork Joint, which is located along Waliggo Road in Komamboga.

In a statement following the explosion, Police added that 'our joint task teams from the bomb squad [have been] called to thoroughly document the scene, to help determine whether the explosion arose out of an intentional act or not'.
