COVID-19: Pope Theodore urges Ugandans to protect themselves

GULU - The Orthodox Pope of Alexandria and All Africa, His Beatitude Theodore II has urged Ugandans to protect themselves against the deadly COVID-19 virus.

The Pope made the remarks while on his tour in Gulu district and All-Eastern Uganda Diocese.

While at St. Spyridon Church Nsinze in Namutumba district, the Pope emphasised the need for all Ugandans protect themselves against the COVID-19, saying it's non-discriminatory as it can kill anyone.

"I have come to re-echo your government's message on Covid-19. Protect yourselves and follow the set procedures," said Pope Theodore II.

Theodore also prayed for the ending of Covid-19 such that children who he said are the future of the church and humanity at large can go back to school and study as they used to do now two years ago.

Bishop Silvester Kisitu, the Diocesan head informed the Pope that the government of Uganda has agreed to take over St. Spyridon Primary school adding that this is going to ease the fees pressure from parents and the church at large because it has got many children whom it has been educating.

Theodore was accompanied by the Caretaker Archbishop of Uganda Orthodox Church Metropolitan Makarios II who also doubles as the Archbishop of Nairobi and All Kenya, among other laities.
