“My friend Toyota, I am still your family. I am still NRM not NUP. If you doubt it you can put on your cameras and record me,” Chameleone said.

Chameleone said he is a prodigal son of the ruling political party.

Former Kampala Lord Mayor aspirant in the 2021 general elections Joseph Mayanja, aka Dr. Jose Chameleone, has rejoined the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

Legendary musician Chameleone in a video which went viral on Sunday (September 19) night, denounced his membership from the National Unity Platform (NUP).

He said he is a prodigal son of the ruling political party.

Chameleone's change came shortly after he was handed a brand-new Range Rover gifted to him by President Yoweri Museveni and handed over by his younger brother Nzeire Kaguta popularly known as Toyota.

“My friend Toyota, I am still your family. I am still NRM not NUP. If you doubt it you can put on your cameras and record me,” Chameleone said.

Chameleone noted that he was a prodigal son and had his issues, but they have since been handled.

Chameleone is among several musicians who supported the NUP party and his colleague Robert Kyagulanyi, who contested against President Yoweri Museveni in the last election.

Chameleone was, however, denied the NUP Lord Mayor ticket in favour of Latif Ssebagala, who later stepped down prompting NUP to hand it to former Kampala Woman Member of Parliament Nabilah Naggayi Ssempala.

Chameleone is among the several musicians who have been camping in Gulu with the hope of meeting the Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation Gen. Salim Saleh for a bailout.
