The Commander Land Forces, Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has paid all the bills for the Uganda national basketball team that was participating in the FIBA AfroBasket 2021 in Kigali, Rwanda.

Federation of Uganda Basketball Association President Nasser Sserunjoji confirmed the payments noting Kainerugaba had personally given the team sh188m to settle hotel bills.

“The Silverbacks men’s team would like to thank Gen. Kainerugaba for coming to the rescue of the National Basketball team in Kigali. Gen Kainerugaba has paid all our hotel bills and has personally ensured we leave Kigali with no credit. We thank you for loving and supporting Basketball.”

Earlier reports had indicated that the team had been detained at a hotel facility in Rwanda over unpaid hotel bills that amounted to a total of sh360m.

In a statement released on Friday, Sserunjoji denied the allegations and noted that they were staying at the Park in Radisson Hotel and they had been treated extremely well.

He also noted that it was the first time the team had reached the quarter-finals at the Continental level where they lost to Cape Verde.
