Every athlete has a different trait that defines their personality and to Clinton Kamugisha, generosity is all that describes his character.

A day after his team Nyamityobora FC failed to earn promotion to the top flight after losing to Gaddafi FC 4-0 at Njeru, they failed to travel back to Mbarara due to a lack of finances and Kamugisha has come out to show his generous side.

The Nyamityobora captain who topped the FUFA Big League scoring charts with 12 goals to claim the golden boot and a sh1m cash prize says he will share the money with teammates and his mother.

“I thank them for the team spirit and without them, I wouldn’t have scored all the goals. I will share some with them and the rest I will share with my mum because she has been so supportive,” Kamugisha said.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder who is among the few players that stayed another season with many having jumped ship from the cash-stricken Nyamityobora, proved his worth, pipping Tooro United striker Marvin Oshaba who with nine goals to the accolade.

“I have to believe in hard work, and I thank the players and the technical staff because without their support I wouldn’t have won anything. Winning the golden boot is the best feeling right now,” Kamugisha said.

Nyamityobora has faced a rough season with immense financial constraints that have seen players and coaches go months without pay, leading to head coach Richard Makumbi’s resignation on Sunday after his side lost to Gadaffi.

Kamugisha, who has had a silent but unique football career, joined the likes of Ivan Bogele (Proline), Dicken Okwir (Paidha Black Angels), Patrick Kaddu (Maroons), Edrisa Lubega (Proline) and Fred Kalanzi (Lweza FC) to storm the podium for the prestigious accolade.

Nicknamed ‘Davico’, Kamugisha’s talent was first spotted by Mbarara Sports Academy after leading Ryakasinga CHE to several Copa Coca-Cola Ankole region titles before he joined Nyamityobora for which he played a pivotal role in its maiden promotion campaign to the top flight in 2016.

He later joined Uganda Premier League side Mbarara City FC but was loaned at Wakiso Giants who he helped also helped earn top-flight promotion for the first time in 2018.
