President Yoweri has said there would not have been need for a lockdown had it not been for false prophets.

Although the president did not exactly reveal who the 'prophets' are, he hinted at politicians, who he says poisoned the public with their anti-government rhetoric, resulting in the population's relaxing observation of SOPs.

According to the president, 56 percent of deaths from Covid-19 happened in the last three months.

"By April, there were no patients in hospitals," he said, adding: "If people had listened, we wouldn't have gone into the second wave."

As of Friday, Uganda had registered a total of 81,992 people who had fought a successful battle against covid19. This number is against a total of 93,675 people who have acquired the virus since the first case was recorded in Uganda in March 2020.

New infections were 393 while deaths in 24-hours were 29, which took the total number of fatalities from Covid-19 in Uganda to 2,661.

According to the Ministry of Health, the total number of people admitted to hospital with Covid-19 stood at 620, while the positivity rate climbed from 6.0% on Thursday to 10%.

At the same time, the total number of Covid-19 tests done increased to 1,465,216 from 1,461,319.

Also increasing was the number of vaccinations carried out in the country which leaped from 1,135,916 to 1,143,763.
