KAMPALA - The wife of American singer, Aliaume Damala Badara Thiam Akon, has met with President Yoweri Museveni to discuss her proposed investment opportunities.

Akon’s wife, Rozina Negusei, returned to the country last week with her team as a way of following up on her earlier visit with her husband.

“I met an African-American investment team mobilized by singer Aliaune Badara Akon and his wife Rozina Negusei at State House Entebbe to discuss investment opportunities in Uganda. I have also given Rozina a Ugandan name- Ihangwe,” Museveni said in a tweet, Monday (May 17, 2021).

Akon’s wife wants to invest in cultural and creative industries, and she last week travelled to Gulu with a team of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) officials led by the director of operations, Sylvia Owori.

The OWC national coordinator, Gen. Salim Saleh, has of late been based in Gulu.

Owori, a renowned fashion designer and businesswoman, was in January this year appointed the director of operations at OWC.

“On my way to Gulu with singer Akon’s wife Rozina Negusei to discuss her proposed investments. Cultural and creative industries are going to be major drivers of income generation/wealth and job creation and export earnings for Uganda in the next five years and well after. Work has started,” Owori posted on her Twitter page, Tuesday.

The Senegalese-American RnB artiste and his wife visited Uganda earlier in April and they met with President Museveni. Akon’s wife had earlier visited Kampala in January.

During their April visit, Akon and his wife met with President Museveni and they discussed different investment opportunities in various sectors of Energy, tourism, and infrastructure development, among others.

Akon promised to build a multi-million-dollar futuristic city in Karamoja sub-region.

In 2018, Akon announced plans to establish a $6b futuristic Pan-African smart city in Senegal dubbed “Akon City”.

Supported by the Senegalese Government, the 800-hectare solar-powered city will feature shopping malls music studios, tourist resorts among other attractions.
