As the new Leadership Code (Amendment) Act takes effect, the Inspectorate of Government (IG) has estimated that about 400,000 public officers, at all ranks, will be required to declare their wealth.

“The expected number of the new category is estimated at 400,000 public officers. The public officers will be required to submit their declarations using the IG online Declaration System,” said Mariam Wangadya, the deputy IGG.

She said the IG will issue a program for the new category of public officers. All public officers are required to declare their wealth within three months. The deadline for the first declaration for the new entrants will be July 23, 2021.

Wangadya revealed that for the public servants whose deadline fell on April 23, 2021, the IG has commenced investigations into the noncompliance.

“The compliance rate for March 2021 declaration period is 83.11% (20,778) leaders out of 25,000 leaders that were expected to declare. This implies that a total of 4,222 leaders are going to be investigated for possible prosecution and sanction before the Leadership Code Tribunal,” she said.
