Kabuleta's no-show disappoints Iganga, Bugiri supporters

The planned campaign rallies were cancelled due to an abrupt meeting with the Katikkiro of Buganda

Supporters of independent presidential candidate Joseph Kabuleta were left disappointed after he failed to turn up for his campaign rally in Iganga.

Over 200 supporters, who had turned up at the Saza grounds in Iganga Municipality, later left after discovering that he was not going to turn up for his main campaign rally.

The Police that had deployed at the venue later moved away after discovering that he would not be coming.

Kabuleta, a sports journalist turned pastor and now a politician, was scheduled to address campaign rallies in Bugiri and Iganga as part of his tour of Busoga sub-region.

Yakuti Kiiza, a bodaboda cyclist along Saza Road in Iganga municipality, said he turned up at the venue at around 8:00am, hoping to listen to his favourite candidate, but was disappointed on learning that he would not be turning up.

"I had foregone all my duties today just to listen to his speech!" he said.

Kiiza said Kabuleta should have delegated some of his campaign team to move around canvassing support and instil confi dence amongst his supporters.

Jane Munaaba, a resident in Nabitende village, said she travelled for over 30km expecting to meet Kabuleta, but she was disappointed on receiving the news that he had cancelled the campaign rally.

Munaaba said she decided to canvass support for Kabuleta after discovering he has all the qualities of a good leader besides being a bornagain Christian.

"This country needs a person who is morally upright to serve as a role model for the young," she said.

Munaaba said she was ready to travel to any part of Busoga sub-region to meet Kabuleta in case he visits.

Kabuleta's personal assistant, Godwin Matsiko, said the planned campaign rallies were cancelled due to an abrupt meeting with the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga.

Matsiko apologised to the supporters and promised to communicate a later date for another campaign rally in the area after consulting with the Electoral Commission.

"We are going to schedule another date with the Electoral Commission to hold another rally in the two districts," he said.
