RELATIONSHIP & MARRIAGE
The Anglican bishop of Soroti Diocese, Kosea Odongo, has cited denial of conjugal rights among married couples as the major cause of divorce.
He accused women of always denying their husbands sex, causing them to look for other women.
"We keep getting complaints regarding marriage. Men cry to me that their women deny them sex, while the women accuse the men of abandoning them," Bishop Odongo said.
He explained that women forge sickness in the evenings with the intention of denying their husbands sex, while others separate beds with their husbands on grounds that they are old.
"Why did you join the marriage institution then? You are a Christian, but you turn your back on your husband at night, why?" the prelate asked.
He made the remarks on Saturday while presiding over a mass wedding for 13 couple at St. Paul Okunguro in Soroti Archdeaconry.
"It is unacceptable for a woman to separate beds or house with her husband on grounds that your children have grown up," Odongo said.
He added that some men have ended up taking on widows who accept to give them sex.
Bishop Odongo explained that most women do not prepare food on time, which forces their men to resort to eating from restaurants.
"From today, be together, share together and learn to understand each other until death separates you. Be open to your partner and, above all, be a loving and caring couple," he advised the newlyweds.
Odongo urged the men to work hard to provide for their families as commanded in the Bible that they are the head of the family.
"Ensure that you have enough food in your home and also dress your woman well so that you do not admire others," he said.
This was the first scientific wedding to be organised by the diocese.
Each couple was asked to come with five people to avoid crowding.
"There are some Christians who have refused to sanitise because sanitisers are made out of alcohol. I appeal to you to sanitise because you do not drink it. It is like you meeting a man smoking, does that mean you smoke?" Odongo asked.
