I got good training from Besigye — Amuriat

The FDC founder enjoys cult status in his home area Rukungiri.

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) flag-bearer Patrick Oboi Amuriat on Monday received perhaps one of the most passionate receptions so far on the campaign trail as he combed Rukungiri for votes in his bid to become president of Uganda.

"I bring you greetings from Dr Kizza Besigye who could not be here with you today," he started, stirring up emotions at Buyanja playground in Buyanja Town Council as the ecstatic crowds reacted to his every gesture.

"I want to be president. And this is not a surprise, because I got good training from Dr Besigye. Now you see that I have the experience; you can see it when you watch television these days. So on January 14, go vote the key, go vote for POA," he said.

Despite declining to contest in the 2021 presidential elections, Besigye enjoys cult status in his home area Rukungiri.

And while he did not turn up at Amuriat's rallies in Rukungiri, it looked as if he was, going by the passion on display.

Music that blared from the public address system was from Besigye's previous campaigns, with the four-time presidential candidate's rendition of Toka Kwabalala dominating the musical interludes.
