Ugandan companies scoop accolades at Digital Impact Awards Africa

Digital Impact Awards Africa is a platform that promotes digital inclusion, financial inclusion and cybersecurity under the theme; “Maximizing the digital dividend”.

At the recently organized virtual edition of the Digital Impact Awards Africa at Mestil Hotel, a host of Ugandan companies scooped a number of accolades, something that continued to show penetration into the digital world by various big companies and Small and Medium Enterprises. 

Digital Impact Awards Africa is a platform that promotes digital inclusion, financial inclusion and cybersecurity under the theme; "Maximizing the digital dividend". 

According to the organizers, HiPipo, the awards seek to recognize and appreciate different organizations that are spearheading the use of digital media in this respect. 

This year was the sixth edition of the awards and the theme was "Collaboration to Advance Safety and Security towards Sustainable Financial Inclusion". Uniquely this time round, the awards were intended to explore the strategic trends and technologies that are shaping the future of digital, information technology and businesses.

In the banking sector, Centenary Bank scooped the Community Banking Excellence Award for it's  contribution towards financial inclusion in communities. 

Commenting on the bank's award, Micheal Bulyerali, the Corporate Communication Specialist for Centenary Bank said, "Centenary Bank is grateful to its customers who have continued supporting the bank through the uptake and usage of the various digital platforms aimed at easing access to services and enhancing their banking experience. The support by our clientele towards our efforts to promote financial inclusion has enabled us to win the Community Banking Excellence award."

In other categories, MTN MoMo scooped the Best Financial Inclusion Impact award, having been in the mobile money business for the last 10 years.

 

FarmDrive, a digital platform meant to connect farmers to best farming equipment and skills, took home the best AgricTech award. 

 

Doreen Lukandwa took home the Women in Fintech award, for her outstanding contribution to women in the financial technology sector. 

 

The 2020 Digital Impact Awards Africa comprised of 36 categories, with 17 recognizing best performing digital and financial players from across Africa and 19 categories purely focused on Uganda. In addition, two special recognitions were featured namely; Regulatory Financial Inclusion Rails Award and Women in FinTech Leadership Award.
