KAMPALA - The Catholic Church has celebrated the day for married couples and family life, calling for Christian families to guide their children on moral values.

Msgr Lawrence Ssemusu urged parents to teach their children to live responsible lives and lead by example.

The function was held at the Uganda Martyrs Basilica Shrine Munyonyo on Sunday (December 27, 2020).

Over 70 married couples from 70 parishes in Kampala Archdiocese represented others in celebrating the day. This was due to COVID 19 and the need to observe the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Msgr Lawrence Ssemusu who represented Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, urged parents to teach their children to live responsible lives and lead by example.

Each Parish was represented by someone.

"The family is a school where we first learn how to respect, being faithful, love and other important values," Ssemusu said.

He said the Church will organise training programmes for couples on parenting, adding that the absence of good parenting is contributing to domestic violence and child abuse.

Mzee Ddumba, a leader of the married couples, said the event helps married couples to reinforce the vows made during marriage.

According to Ddumba, they celebrated well and each parish was represented by someone.
