Kawempe worst hit by Covid-19 infections- RDC

The Kawempe Deputy Resident City Commissioners Hudu Hussein has raised a red flag over the Covid-19 infections in Kawempe Division. Hudu In an interview with the New Vision noted that the Kawempe Division alone had recorded 453 confirmed covid-19 cases between December 21 2020 to December 24, 2020.

"This number is only for those who have managed to test and the surge is likely to increase with the festive season and political season. People are silently succumbing to this thing and when one comes up to explain this situation, you hear some politicians talking like they are health workers," Hudu stated.

On Saturday, the Electoral Commission (EC) suspension of any political activities in the capital Kampala and several other districts and cities, citing rising COVID-19 cases.

"The Electoral Commission has suspended campaign meetings in districts and cities categorized by Ministry of Health as having high infection rates of Covid19.  From December 26, 2020, no campaign meetings will be held in Mbarara, Kabarole, Luwero, Kasese, Masaka, Wakiso, Kabarole, Jinja, Kalungu, Kazo, Kampala and Tororo," EC spokesman Paul Bukenya said.

Hudu noted that the suspension would save many lives. "It is surely a relief. Let's stay safe, Covid19 is deadly," he added.

On December 16, 2020, Hudu petitioned the EC to cancel campaigns of the National Unity Platform Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu and Forum for Democratic Change Patrick Oboi Amuriat in the Kampala business district.

Hudu and a team of NRM supporters said in their petition that these campaigns attract a large crowd that is likely to trigger the spread of COVID-19 within the city.

There has been an increase in the number of covid-19 infections in the country recently with the Ministry of Health noting that the cumulative confirmed cases are now 33,563. The country has also lost 245 people to the virus.
