Former school head, wife succumb to COVID-19

NTUNGAMO - A couple in Ntungamo district, in Western Uganda, has succumbed to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The husband; Sebastian Bangirana was one time a headteacher of Nyakyera Secondary School in Ntungamo, was the first one to pass on Christmas day.

He was also the former Rukoni Subcounty chairperson; having joined politics after retirement from teaching. 

Bangirana's wife; Mukulu Serina, who was also admitted to the same hospital, died a few hours after her husband; Saturday (December 26, 2020), in the wee hours of the morning.

They had been admitted to High Dependency Unit.  

The couple celebrated their 5oth anniversary last year. 

The incident comes barely days after Ntungamo district headquarters after staff at the Ntungamo district offices were reported positive and the premises closed.

The world is currently faced with a pandemic of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), a new virus that spreads so fast through droplet infection especially in crowded places and causes illness.  

It is spread from person to person through sneezing or coughing (droplet infection), human to human contact and contact with contaminated surfaces.

Signs and symptoms of COVID-19 include Fever, Running Nose (flu), Cough, General Weakness, difficulty in breathing if the patient develops pneumonia

The health ministry and the government's reminder to the public have always been to adherence to the guidelines which include wearing masks, keeping social distance, and washing hands with either soap or disinfectants.
