We are treating ban of campaigns as a rumour

ELECTION WATCH | EC | FDC

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate, Patrick Oboi Amuriat says his party is treating the suspension of campaigns by Electoral Commission (EC) in a number of districts as a rumour.

He said his party has not received a notice in writing about the new changes in the campaign schedule.

But if it turns out to be true, he said, his party will resist it, until the commission is able to compensate them for the lost campaigning opportunity.

"Museveni is hiding behind Covid-19 to disadvantage us," he said.

The FDC was addressing journalists in Sembabule in reaction to the news that EC had banned campaigns in Kampala and a dozen other districts.

The other districts include Mbarara, Kabarole, Luwero, Kasese, Masaka, Wakiso, Jinja, Kalungu, Kazo and Tororo.

According to EC, the ban comes in place on Saturday, December 26.

EC says the suspension is due to the surging Covid-19 infections and persistent violation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by politicians.
