The department of anti-narcotics under the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have destroyed 69.07kilograms of narcotic drug exhibits worth approximately sh179, 5236,960 at the police barracks in Nsambya.
These include 62775.51gms (62.77kgs) of heroin, 2.90kgs of cocaine, 991.82gm of methamphetamine, 191.51gms of mixture of methamphetamine and morphine and 2.22kg of cannabis.
The commissioner anti-narcotics, Zarugaba Tinka who presided over the exercise said the exhibits aligned for destruction were seized from Entebbe Airport for a period of six months.
The people involved and their nationalities are; 11 Ugandans, 3 Nigerians, 2 Bolivians, 2 Germans, 1 Dutch, 1 Indian, 1 Iraqi and 1 British.
Tinka added that all people involved were taken to court, convicted and paid a fine of sh280m with a one Huzaifa Ssemogerere who is currently serving a sentence of 10 years imprisonment.
"There is a need for the Minister Internal Affairs to urgently fast track the appointment of the committee known as National co-ordination committee for drug control as provided for in section 67 and 68 of the narcotic drug and psychotropic substances," he said
