Uganda's Ambassador to Canada Joy Ruth Acheng has established contact with food dealers in Canada, to buy off food produced by Ugandan women.
According to Acheng, Uganda's food is considered one of the best on the market, given its organic nature.
"Am working hard to introduce Ugandan food on the Canadian food market, it is organic, people there love it," Acheng said.
Speaking during a meeting with over 300 Hoima women food vendors, she said Ugandan food including Matooke, Soya beans, beef and sweet bananas are on high demand in Canada.
She however implored those targeting the Canadian food market to ensure quality during harvesting of their food.
"Their food quality has to meet international standards for it to be allowed in Canada. Quality is of paramount importance," she said.
Peace and stability
Acheng who is currently in the country canvassing votes for President Yoweri Museveni commended the president's administration for the peace and security in Uganda, that has enabled women to engage in economic ventures such as agriculture.
She said; " It is because of the peace in the country ushered in by President Museveni, that we are seeing everyone doing something to empower themselves economically. We should maintain this peace".
During the interaction with market women in Hoima district, she implored them to vote for the NRM presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni.
She met a group of youth leaders whom she advised to ensure that the youth they led, form groups for easy resource mobilization for economic empowerment.
She was amazed by the government's commitment to developing road infrastructure, which she said is key for economic growth and development.
"I was here in Bunyoro in 2016, but the road network was not that good but now 10 oil roads have been paved. This cannot be taken for granted," she said.
Acheng also noted that Hoima International Airport which is under construction will go a long way in promoting trade since transportation of Ugandan goods to the international market will be eased.
