Body of unidentified man found in Kyotera

The circumstances around the death are still a mystery

The Police in Kyotera is trying to establish the identity of a man thought to be in his late 20s, whose body was discovered in a bush.

The body was discovered after residents in Sanje village in Kasasa sub-county unknowingly trampled over the decomposed body on Saturday evening. They notified local leaders who called the Police to the scene.

According to Steven Ssebunya the Kakuuto LC III chairperson, Kasasa Police liaised with Kakuuto Police in a joint investigation before they took the body to Kakuuto Health Centre IV.

"We received the body from Sanje because Kakuuto is the nearest facility to keep it. We liaised with the district CID who is now investigating," he said.

Ssebunya explained that he offered a portion of land to bury the deceased in case no one claims the body this week.

Since the deceased was donning a St Mary's Kitende SS t-shirt, it was assumed that he was a student but preliminary inquiries later established that he was a herdsman.

"We are still keeping the body in the mortuary for some time as we wait for someone to claim it. If no one comes out this week, we shall bury it," he said.

However, the authorities have not been able to establish what the cause of death is.

Muhammad Nsubuga, the Masaka Regional Police spokesperson, said that the circumstances around the death are still a mystery, adding that a post-mortem is yet to reveal the cause of death.

According to Dr Denis Eremu who is in charge of Kakuuto Health Centre IV, they are still giving it time to find out whether someone will claim the body.

Eremu appealed to anyone with information that can aid their investigations to inform the Police.

A file, Ref/03/19/12/2020, was opened at Kasasa Police Station as investigations continue.
